Cherokee, incorporated December 7, 1871, is a town in west Colbert County, Alabama, United States. It is part of the Florence - Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Statistical Area, known as "The Shoals". As of the 2010 census, the population of the town was 1,048
Cherokee has several local restaurants. Some current locations include JJ's, El Mariachi, Hometown Pizza and Subway.
Two regional banks have branch offices in Cherokee providing banking services to western Colbert County. Prior to theGreat Depression Cherokee was home to the Tennessee Valley Bank.
The town has hosted many businesses over the years, but after a major fire in the 1960s the downtown business district declined. Today the town still features a grocery store/hardware stores, and a drug store.
