7 Tips to Keeping Your Dentures Clean

Sometimes, when all or few natural teeth need to be removed from the mouth, dentures are used. Dentures are nothing but an effective replacement of missing teeth. Due care of these dentures is important if you want to keep them fit better and last longer. Your dentist will advise you about the basic daily care and cleaning. o Daily Denture Cleaning – 

Before using denture, brush it thoroughly with a non-abrasive denture cleaner. This will help in removing plaque and food and prevent the development of stains on the dentures. 

Soak them in a cleaning solution. Make sure that the solution that you use is mild and has the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance (ADA). This seal is a testimony that the solution has been evaluated for safety and effectiveness.

Rinse them thoroughly with water before inserting them back in your mouth. 

Daily cleaning of dentures can reduce the risk of getting sores on your gums (denture stomatitis).  

o Never Place your Denture in Boiling Water – 

It is highly recommended that you do not place your dentures in hot water. Excessive heat may cause dentures to warp and deform. Rectifying a deformed denture could prove to be a costly affair. You could end up spending big bucks to the denture dentist with little or no satisfaction. 

o Don’t keep them for too Long in Sodium Hypochlorite Solution – 

It is advisable that you do not soak your dentures in sodium hypochlorite solution for more than 10 minutes. It could seriously damage it. 

o Storing in Water –

It is quintessential that you keep your dentures moist so that they do not lose their shape or dry out. If you are not using your dentures, do not leave them unattended. Store them in water otherwise dryness can cause them to warp.

o Using Adhesive on Dentures? –

Denture adhesives improve stability and keep food particles from getting under the dentures. But you should use adhesive appropriately and make sure that all of it get out of your mouth. 

o Handle with care – 

The make of the dentures is very delicate and it may break if dropped even from a few inches. Handle it with proper care and keep away from children and pets. 

o Regular Dental Check-Ups – 

It is important that you see your denture dentist and assess your oral health status. Your dentist will pay attention to your oral tissues. He will specifically scan around your gums and cavities. There might be a risk getting afflicted to oral cancer or gum disease.
