According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,039 people, 399 households, and 284 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 965.1 people per square mile (371.4/km²). There were 424 housing units at an average density of 393.9 per square mile (151.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.21% White, 0.67% African American, 0.87% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.38% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races.Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.73% of the population.
There were 399 households out of which 35.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.6% weremarried couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% were non-families. 23.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 11.0% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males.
