Pettus is located in northern Bee County at (28.618609, -97.802781). U.S. Route 181passes through the community, leading south 16 miles (26 km) to Beeville, the county seat, and north 14 miles (23 km) to Kenedy.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.8 square miles (15.1 km2), all of it land.
Pettus is served by the Pettus Independent School District and home to the Pettus Secondary School Eagles.
